H. G. Muller wrote on Sat, Mar 15 01:52 PM UTC in reply to hirosi Kano from 01:04 PM:

You mean it can only move to (say) c5 if either b4 or d4 is empty? This would be FasF, or [F?sF] (which is equal to F[F-sF]) in bracket notation.

hirosi Kano wrote on Sat, Mar 15 02:01 PM UTC in reply to H. G. Muller from 01:52 PM:

Thank you very much. It works well. I am weak in the notation of a.

H. G. Muller wrote on Sat, Mar 15 02:09 PM UTC in reply to hirosi Kano from 02:01 PM:

Yes, the bracket notation is easier. But it does not work yet for all combinations of moves. I hope to fix that one day.

hirosi Kano wrote on Sat, Mar 15 02:27 PM UTC in reply to H. G. Muller from 02:09 PM:

I have not ever heard the bracket notation. Maybe, I seem that I am hard to understand the system like a [] or ?-.

H. G. Muller wrote on Sat, Mar 15 02:36 PM UTC in reply to hirosi Kano from 02:27 PM:

The [] are just delimiters to indicate everything written between them describes a single move. A dash - means continuation, and separates the various 'legs' of the move, a question mark indicates the continuation is optional, and that what was written before it is a valid move in itself. So [F-sF] means an F move mandatorily followed by another F move in the sideway direction (i.e. perpendicular to the first). By default non-final legs must go to empty squares, and continuation legs go as much as possible in the same direction.

hirosi Kano wrote on Sat, Mar 15 03:28 PM UTC in reply to H. G. Muller from 02:36 PM:

Thank you for your lecture. I have learned very well, but it is very hard to understand for English. I am now learning English and Betza notation scripts etc. by this page. I am glad to make public of my jobs.

Why ask me? The text already tells you what to do and I'm not an editor at least as I type this.

That's why I posted Interactive Diagrams for my variants in the comments section instead.

H. G. Muller wrote on Tue, Jun 17 08:42 PM UTC in reply to HaruN Y from 06:04 PM:

How about an army based on morphing pieces? Such as the Mad Morphers:

captureMatrix=/A11/A11///W11/W11/.G10/.G10 graphicsDir=/graphics.dir/alfaeriePNG/ squareSize=50 pawn::::a2-h2 set=Design 1 acolyt::B:bishop:c1,f1 acolyt::FnDD:dragon:v elk::N:knight: morph=.E/E./.E/E./.E/E./.E/E. elk::R:rook:a1,h1 morph=E./.E/E./.E/E./.E/E./.E warrior::W'FA:champion:b1,g1 warrior::WF'D:champion: set=Design 2 acolyt::N:knight: acolyt::B:bishop:c1,f1 elk::R:rook:h1 morph=.E/E./.E/E./.E/E./.E/E. elk::BW:dragon:a1 morph=E./2.E/E./.E/E./.E/E./.E warrior::W'A:elephantwazir:b1,g1 warrior::F'D:warmachineferz: set=0 general::BN:cardinal:d1 general::RN:chancellor: king::KisO2::e1

The Acolyt morphs every move, the General only when it captures. The Warrior changes its jump between orthogonal and diagonal, depending on which of the two it makes. The move of the Elk depends on the square shade.

[Edit] Perhaps design 2 is closer matched ro FIDE and the value of morphing pairs is more homogeneous.

H. G. Muller wrote on Wed, Jun 18 09:17 AM UTC:

I am also contemplating a Happy Hoppers army. It might contain some of the following pieces:

graphicsDir=/graphics.dir/alfaeriePNG/ satellite=hoppers squareSize=50 captureMatrix=/////.^7 pawn::::a2-h2 cannon::::a1,h1 set=First Draft killer kangaroo::mQ[cQ-mQ][mpQ-oK-bK]:kangaroo:d1 shooter=2 cricket::mgQcQ:grasshopper:b1,g1 lame squirrel::nAnDafsW:squirrel:c1,f1 set=Refined killer kangaroo::mQ[cQ-mK][mpQ-oK-bK]:kangaroo:d1 shooter=2 cricket::mgQcQ3:grasshopper:b1,g1 lame templar::nDafsF:templar:c1,f1 set=0 omnichecker::mK[pcK-fK]:checkerking::1 mao::[W-F]:knightwazir: knight:::: bishop:::: rook:::: queen:::: king::KisO2::e1

[Edit] I like the 'Cricket'. It seems a nice way to introduce a grasshopper move into an army, without resorting to very weak pieces like the Grasshopper itself. By making it divergent, with a normal capture, it is also avoided that the piece becomes worthless in the late end-game. In fact, mgQcQ is a major piece: it can force checkmate just together with its King!

Problem is that it is very strong. I am testing it now in Fairy Max, and it even beats a Dragon King RF. But it can be weakened by decreasing the range of the capture. Even mgQcQ3 is still a major piece.
