I am also contemplating a Happy Hoppers army. It might contain some of the following pieces:

graphicsDir=/graphics.dir/alfaeriePNG/ satellite=hoppers squareSize=50 captureMatrix=/////.^7 pawn::::a2-h2 cannon::::a1,h1 killer kangaroo::mQcafmQmpyaoabQ:kangaroo:d1 cricket::mgQcQ:grasshopper:b1,g1 lame squirrel::nAnDafsW:squirrel:c1,f1 omnichecker::mK[pcK-fK]:checkerking::1 mao::afsW:knightwazir: knight:::: bishop:::: rook:::: queen:::: king::KisO2::e1

[Edit] I like the 'Cricket'. It seems a nice way to introduce a grasshopper move into an army, without resorting to very weak pieces like the Grasshopper itself. By making it divergent, with a normal capture, it is also avoided that the piece becomes worthless in the late end-game. In fact, mgQcQ is a major piece: it can force checkmate just together with its King!

Problem is that it is very strong. I am testing it now in Fairy Max, and it even beats a Dragon King RF. But it can be weakened by decreasing the range of the capture. Even mgQcQ3 is still a major piece.
