The N + k Queens Problem Page describes work inspired by the Chess Variant Pages' Nine Queens Problem Contest. In the N+k Queens Problem (aka Queens Separation Problem), we ask how many pawns must be put on the board in order to allow a placement of N+k Queens on the board such that the queens do not guard each other. If N is large enough, the answer turns out to be k.
