Mountain Slope Chess
My brother likes traveling, and several years ago he was (and even met a new year) in Sheregesh, popular ski resort in Siberia. So that inspired me to create this game.
Board & Setup
Board has 8 columns, but 12 rows. Setup is standard, but black pieces are on the last, 11th and 12th, rows.
Rules
Any piece which ends its move on any square in area from 3rd to 10th row, after completing that move, automatically slides one square straight downwards, i. e. in direction leading to the 1st row on the board. That slide cannot capture, so if the square it will slide to is occupied by any piece of either color, that slide won't be performed. Null moves are forbidden, i.e. you cannot move to square from which the piece will return to its origin square.
All pieces must perform that slide, but Pawns on every turn except for the first one, when they do non-capturing move, won't slide. Otherwise pieces move like in FIDE chess, however white Pawns, if yet not moved, can make even triple step from start, while black Pawns have not double step at all; it is because moving a Pawn the first time by both sides results in normal double step in most cases.
Except for differences mentioned above, rules are as in FIDE chess.
Notes
In this game Black is more offensive while White is more defensive. Occupying a square to not let your pieces to slide downwards is effective tactic for White's offense as well as for Black's defense.
