Somewhat related to this game is: Ruggero Micheletto's Ultra Chess, giving Rooks and Knights and Bishops the ability to move to all adjacent squares. With two Queens and one Consort (Commoner) in each army, the pieces in that 10x10 variant lack variety.

Should anyone want to try this game - which is essentially chess with rooks and bishops replaced with Rook/Ferz and Bishop/Wazir pieces (Dragon Kings and Dragon Horses)... A preset is here: Link
