I have found no notice that indicate that the Mashers are a retired army
Browsing through some of Betza's writings I found it here. It gives no reason, though. Perhaps in play-testing it turned out the strength was completely off. Or that the initial position against most armies was not quiet. The original announcement seems to admit that the deep forking power of the N2R4 can lead to forced gain of an unprotected backrank piece, but says that the N2R4 can be trapped then. Perhaps on closer analysis this was not true.
I will try some tests using this army with Fairy-Max.
