Well as far as I can see, Chess in the Round didn't touch on extending the definition of 'forward' - Pawns carried on moving as in FIDE Chess. A case could be made for relaxing the definition of a long-range 'forward' move to any having at least one forward step, but that doesn't address the Gold or Silver. Or perhaps there is room for a 'Chess in the Further Round', in which Pawns can indeed move one step ringwise or forward without capturing, or capture by a diagonal step with a forward or ringwise component or both. Hey, that's yet another new variant...
