Person Information

Mr. B. G. Laws was born in London, England on February 6, 1861, and he started composing problems in 1878. He edited the Chess Monthly for ten years. In 1893, he began working on the problem department of the British Chess Magazine. When the British Chess Problem Society formed in 1918, he became its first president, and he served in that capacity until his death on September 21, 1931 at the age of 70. This information comes from his obituary, which appears on the front page of The Problemist for October 1931.
