Christiaan Freeling's game. All pieces move orthogonally or diagonally. Kings move to the nearest available square in that direction. They may capture only to an adjacent square, and escape check only to an adjacent square. Pawns may move to the nearest available square in a direction, or the second-nearest, destroying the square leaped in the process. They give check only to the nearest square. Pawns do not capture pawns. No landing on destroyed squares. Kings may not face one another across a line composed entirely of destroyed squares. As per user input, I have altered the program so that being unable to move simply loses the turn.
These are simple illustrations rather than strong opponents.
