I recently came across a record album for a group called Zebra. I didn't like the music, but it had great cover art of a Zebra Chess piece. Here is the image:
Actually, there is a song they wrote called 'Who's Behind The Door' that contains possibly the most curt, and most thought-provoking lyric ever written: 'Looking out to the stars, think about what you are.' And if you do think about it, it is rather profound.
I just had a weird thought: here we have the Zebra, and its relative the Zebrarider. What about a Zebrose? That would make Zebra moves in a circle. It'd be to a 12x12 board what a Rose can do on an 8x8.
The ‘Zebrose’ exists already in theory as Charles Gilman's ‘Bezra’ (derived from a slightly tenuous pun on Horse/Rose). It doesn't seem to have been used in any games yet though (understandably since the rose itself is already awkward enough)
Well, I'd put a Zebrose into a game if I could come up with a good excuse -- though probably not on a board smaller than 16x16, and definitely not smaller than 12x12.
