This is a very clever way to produce a game with both strong Xiang Qi and orthodox Chess flavour. I especially like the way the pieces (Kings and Bishops) are confined. Kings are in Palaces, yet they can cross the board to the opponent Palace in the end-game to assist checkmating in the Chess way (rather than relying on a King-facing rule). And the Bishops are roughly confined to half the board, yet they can reach both Palaces.
