I have now added Swedish Cannons to my 10x10 Mastodon Chess. Note the obvious advantages with this type of cannon in this 10x10 context. It is very mobile while, unlike the Chinese Cannon, it jumps both when moving and capturing. In the initial position it can slide along the first rank because the condition is fulfilled that there exist no jump moves. /Mats

As I understand the rules, if a jump move DOES exist, the Cannon is NOT allowed to slide like a Rook. Am I right ?

The starting position of Paulovits's Game is RNBPaGQKBNR on the 1st and 10th rank. I assume that you cannot visit my homepage due to restrictions. Yes, your assumption about the Swedish Cannon is correct. In Gustavian Cannon Chess I inserted it in the extra corners, and it works great. Link to Zillions site, here.

To me the moves of the Swedish cannon are not shown. I think this is known, and it is done because of difficulty of its implementation. Am I correct?

You can see the move once the cannon is on the board, but the interactive diagram doesn't follow the written rules for cannon entry.

You are right; the move diagrams have no provision for 'backup moves'. The highlights in move diagrams are still shown by the old move generator, not the one used in the AI. (The requirements are different: in move diagrams you want to highlight potential capture-only moves, even when the piece is shown on an empty board.) This old move generator only shows the primary moves.

I am not sure how this would have to be fixed in general. Perhaps the backup moves should always be shown, but with different marker symbols for indicating they are backup moves.
