Hard to discriminate pieces!
Why not use Alfaerie set (pawns for pathans, kings for chiefs, queens for
princesses, camels for flyers, elephants for padwars, knights for thoats,
rooks for dwars, dababas for warriors)?

I think, it's better to make new Alfaerie pieces special for Jetan. It also will help to play Cszaux's game War of the worlds (i want to try it).

The pieces for the jetan presets are set up wrong. Chief and princess should change places on both sides, so that chief stands to the left, as seen from each player. Note that this does not affect gameplay, since the moves can just be mirrored. It would still be nice to have the board set up the right way.

It would also be nice to have the red and blue pieces switch sides, since the proper game has black pieces playing from south and orange from north.

If there are any aspects of the rules that are not clear, please check the rules of jetan (edited from Burroughs' original for greater clarity).

Would it be possible for an editor to switch Princess and Chief as indicated by Fredrik and to propose another set to play as the one proposed is nice to see but really discouraging to play. Either my renewed set that I sent to Greg I believe several weeks ago or Alfaerie would be better. Thanks

Finally, I have been able to do something myself. I called the new preset "Jetan-of-Barsoom". I wish an editor can now authorise this new preset to appear in the lists. Thank you.

Hi Jean-Louis,

I'm not sure I understand.  I do not see a member submission.  You would like a new page or the link added to this one?  What is Jetan of Barsoom?  Is that a different game?  (I do recognize "Barsoom" as a reference to Mars from the writings of Robert Heinlein but I don't know what it means in this context.)

Hi Greg

Maybe I did something wrong. Currently I'm helping Fredrik having a hot and big project on Jetan. We need a preset with the correct setup (the existing one has Princess and Chief wrongly switched) and possibly with another character table (the existing design are cute and beautiful but not practical at all). I've tried to do something alone, and the only I could do was to create a new preset. So I changed the name but it is exactly the same game. It is here: https://www.chessvariants.com/play/pbm/play.php?game%3DJetan-of-Barsoom%26settings%3DJetan-of-Barsoom I think that if you help me we could erase the preset I've made and just correct the new one. I'm sorry if I've made some confusion. Thank you for your help

I have created a piece set with Jean-Louis's graphics, as well as a new set with Spratt's graphics but with the new notation, and added them to a "Jetan" piece set group so players can select either option.

I have also made new presets with the new piece sets and the correct piece arrangement. The legacy presets and piece sets will need to remain, however, because they are games that have been played using them, but they are no longer linked from this page.

Rule-enforcing presets would be nice, but I am not going to attempt it.

Since those presets did not make use of any settings files, the logs making use of them already contain everything they need, and nothing need be kept of them apart from those logs.
